Here's an easy step-by-step video on how to create a mixed media card.
Step #1 - Lena
Stamp the main Lena fairy image onto a piece of watercolour paper. I used Bockingford watercolour paper and stamped it with VersaFine Claire Nocturne. I then coloured it using our Multi Surface Paint (Aubergine Dazzle, Turquoise Wave Shimmer, Pastel Pale Peach, Coffee, Spiced Pumpkin, Silver Shine Sparkle). Once completely dry I restamped the image and cut her out. Stamp the hair section out, colour with Spiced Pumpkin and cut out (this comes up later in the video) Put them to one side.
Step #2 - The Wings
Stamp the righthand wing onto the vellum using embossing ink, remove static with an anti-static bag first. Then sprinkle with white embossing powder and heat to melt. I used VersaMark watermark stamp pad and Wow embossing powder. Repeat with the wing section of the main stamp then cut both wings out and lightly blend on some Pine Needles Ranger Distress Ink to the back of the wings.
Step #3 - The Background
Adhere a torn piece of book print to the left-hand side of an A5 piece of watercolour paper. Leave to dry then blend some Pine Needles Ranger Distress Ink through a stencil. I used Katkin Krafts Turkish Nights stencil which will be available from 12th November 2022. Using the same stencil spread some clear texture paste through the stencil on the top left-hand corner of the paper. I used our clear Spread It. This goes on white but dries clear. Once the paste is dry, spritz it with water and add some paint to give a resistive effect. Add until you get the look you want. Use the same colours that you used for Lena. Splash with water for a beaching effect. You could leave it at that if you want or go on to add some Pixie Powders as I did (Peacock Green). Leave to completely dry then add some wax to highlight the detail in the textured paste. I used our Wax Lyrical in Silver Fox.
Step #3 - Adding More Interest
To create more interest in the background I added a border with a black fine liner pen and used one of the feather elements from the stamp set. Then I added some circles with white and black pens and created shading with white and black pencils.
Step #4 - Bringing It All Together
I added some highlights to Lena using a white gel pen, spritzed the back of her with water and shaped her with a ball tool. I then used 3d tape to stick her to the background. The hair and wings were then stuck in place
Step #5 - Final Touches
Finally, I added the sentiment from the stamp set added some colour to it then created a shadow behind Lena using our Multi Surface Paint in Inky Blue. Finally, I added some additional detail with lines, dots and small circles using a white gel pen and black fine liner.
Hope you enjoyed it x
